Hope is the thing with falsehoods
that lies and lies and lies
and no matter what you feed it
continually dies
It tells you there's a future
so you'll get up and try again
It claims that something better
is just up around the bend
And even as you're dying at
the "something better's" feet
hope is the pernicious thing
that says you'll be good to eat
